A Mpumalanga man who fathered three children with his daughter is due to be sentenced in the Nelspruit regional court this week.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his daughter, started sexually abusing her when she was 13. She is now 23.

The Nelspruit regional court found him guilty on nine counts of rape last week.

She told the court that her father had said having sex with him was fine.

"He used to have sex with me three times a week," the daughter testified. "He said it was important that my blood should mix with his, that I should carry his blood in me.

"He said I should respect him so that I will I live longer."

She said she had her first child in 2000 when she was in Grade 8 and had dropped out of school.

Her second child was born in 2003 and in 2005 she had her third, all fathered by her father.

"As I grew older I realised what he was doing was wrong and I started refusing - but when I did he would stop talking to me, deprive me of food and ill-treat me compared to my other siblings."

She said her father instructed her to go to his bedroom to kiss him every morning. She was not allowed to be close to her siblings.

The father, who is originally from Swaziland, is also reported to have been physically abusive and never allowed her visitors.

The victim, who is the third of 12 children, said her father would get very angry with her if she obeyed her mother.

She and her mother and siblings left home after laying charges against her father in 2006 and are at present in a place of safety.

Miranda Tlou, a clinical psychologist who counselled the victim, told the court that she did not trust men in general.
