Fifa president Sepp Blatter will meet the three most important South African soccer chiefs tomorrow to discuss a variety of issues relating to the game.
The trio are Safa president Molefi Oliphant, 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee chairman Irvin Khoza and chief executive Danny Jordaan.
It is a routine pre-LOC board meeting to discuss issues relating to South Africa's preparations for the 2009 Confederations Cup and World Cup.
The meeting between the Fifa boss and the trio will deal more with issues relating to the soccer aspects so that they speak with one voice when the board meets.
The board, which also includes Zwelinzima Vavi, Jeff Radebe, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Jeff Radebe, Kaizer Motaung, Tokyo Sexwale and Anastasia Tscihlas, will meet soon after the one-off meeting between Blatter and the trio.
Though the agenda of the pre-board meeting was not made public, two issues are expected to be key. Blatter will most definitely raise concerns around the succession plans for the Safa presidency after current incumbent Oliphant made it clear he won't seek re-election.
The other issue will be Bafana Bafana's failure to qualify for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola and plans to assemble a formidable squad for the World Cup.
Blatter looks set to once more persuade Oliphant to stay on until the end of the World Cup. Oliphant has consistently argued that his quitting Safa as president will not disrupt the World Cup preparations as he will still sit on the LOC board.
The Safa president said new leaders took over the German federation and professional wing before the 2006 World Cup without any problems.
Three people have emerged as possible successors to Oliphant during the elections in September next year. They are Khoza, Jordaan and Kirsten Nematendani.
Campaigning has intensified.
l Blatter will also meet other leaders like ANC president Jacob Zuma, Gauteng Premier Mbhazima Shilowa, Western Cape Premier Lynne Brown and Johannesburg mayor Amos Masondo later in the week.
