A tightly contested Absa Premiership encounter between Free State Stars and Lamontville Golden Arrows at Welkom Stadium at the weekend ended in a goalless stalemate.

The result was a true reflection of the two sides' performance on the day in front of 4200 enthusiastic spectators.

The players showed a lack of inventiveness from set pieces and open play, as well as a lack of composure in front of goal. They fired blanks the whole game.

Paulus Masehe and Jimmy Kauleza from Stars, as well as Arrows' Abia Nale were the chief culprits.

Arrows' coach Manqoba Mngqithi said: "We should have done better but we did not play our best.

"I'm confident we will turn the tide around as the league progresses and results will come."

Ea Lla Koto's coach Owen da Gama expressed satisfaction with their offensive approach and stability in the defence.

"I would have been happy getting full points at home.

"However, I'm happy that we managed to strike a balance given this is the second match [of the season].

"There's no need to panic right now. We just need to work harder and the results will come."
