First it was ANC deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe, then Western Cape premier Lynne Brown and now it's the turn of other Jacob Zuma followers to be deployed to the Government.

The Zuma camp is already starting to push itself into government ahead of next year's general election and more senior members will soon be deployed in government, Parliament, provincial legislatures and municipal councils.

The latest to be earmarked for a senior position in the Government is newly elected Limpopo ANC provincial chairman Cassel Mathale.

The ANC provincial executive committee at the weekend resolved to deploy Mathale first to the provincial legislature and then to the Cabinet. The move could force premier Sello Moloto to reshuffle his cabinet ahead of next year's general election.

Provincial secretary Joe Maswanganyi told Sowetan yesterday that Mathale would be deployed to the Government, but to which position had not yet been determined.

Mathale is tipped to become the next premier after next year's elections, having beaten Moloto as party chairman during the recent ANC provincial conference.

"It makes sense to put him there because we want to strengthen the interface between the ANC and the government," Maswanganyi said. "His presence as ANC chairman will strengthen the ANC's hold in Government in terms of giving political and policy direction to those deployed in government."

Maswanganyi said he would resign from the provincial legislature to make room for Mathale.
