Amelia Kholekile Dhlamini, 57, died bedridden. Her lower body was paralysed but even during her last days she moved people's hearts and minds.
Ma Dhlamini, as she was popularly known in her community, died last Thursday at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital following complications with a septic wound that resulted from a spinal operation three years ago.
Her death has taken a mother, confidante and inspirational leader from both young and old people in her Molapoville community and Zulu Congregational Church.
Dhlamini was a church choir leader, chairman of Umanyano (women's league), leader in the church and community and chairman of the Molapoville Street Committee.
Dhlamini leaves behind a legacy for her daughter Nokuthula and her five grandchildren, two of whom are the children of her late daughter Nomphumelelo. She also leaves behind one great grandchild, two sisters and one brother.
A family friend who regarded Dhlamini as a mother, said everyone who knew her would miss her very much.
She described Dhlamini as a "manager, an organiser, teacher, helper and a trustworthy human being".
"She has taken to her grave many secrets of people who had confided in her," she said.
Dhlamini will be buried tomorrow at the Avalon Cemetery. The service starts at 9am at her church.
