The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation South Africa is to stage its own games to commemorate the success of the Beijing Olympics and the Olympic spirit for young people.

Youngsters from the six Laureus-supported projects in Gauteng will come together for this unique celebration of sport - the Laureus Games 2008 - at Wits University on Saturday.

Morné du Plessis, chairman of Laureus South Africa, said: "We have all enjoyed the excitement of the Olympic Games and it was felt that we should stage our own games to commemorate such a historic event.

"The concept of the Games is far from a simple sports competition. 'One World One Dream' fully reflects the essence and the universal values of the Olympic spirit - Unity, Friendship, Progress, Harmony, Participation and Dream.," added du Plessis. - Sapa
