Former Bafana Bafana defender Edward Motale is impressed by the role played by companies linked to the 2010 World Cup in the development of the sport.

Motale, now a development coach, is one of the soccer greats used by Sony as one of its ambassadors for the Fevapitch five-a-side competition.

Sony, makers of electronic products like televisions and digital cameras, are the official partners of the 2009 Confederations Cup and 2010 World Cup.

The Fevapitch tournament is played in various provinces with the winners qualifying for the national championships on November 25 and 26.

This Saturday and Sunday in Bloemfontein, 24 Free State clubs will battle it out at Mangaung Sports Complex.

"There will still be soccer played in South Africa post 2010, that is why it is important for all of us and the corporate world to focus on development," said Motale.

Andrew Fraser, senior manager of the electronics giant, said they were delighted to contribute to the development of the beautiful game.
