Kwaito singer Ignatius "Dr Mageu" Ntshebele died in prison on Saturday.

At the time of his death, the former TKzee member was being held at the Heidelberg prison for raping a friend's younger sister.

When Sowetan yesterday visited the late singer's home in Tshiawelo, Soweto, there were no obvious signs of the calamity that had befallen the family.

Only a group of three men sat in the family's garden smoking cigarettes.

The singer's younger brother, Sam Ntshebele, confirmed that the muso had died at the weekend.

The visibly disturbed sibling, however, refused to divulge any further details saying the family was not prepared to speak to the media.

"All I can tell you is that my brother has died. We don't want to talk to the media about it. We are not going to allow any media person anywhere near this yard," he said.

Although the popular singer popped his clogs at the weekend, most people in his neighbourhood only caught wind of the news of his death late yesterday.

The controversial artist, who was discovered by Arthur Mafokate, has also sung with Brothers of Peace.

He was sentenced to seven years imprisonment after being convicted by the Johannesburg high court last year.

Details of the funeral are still to be finalised.
