A high-powered delegation from Gauteng is in Brazil for a series of meetings with the local soccer and business communities, and the 2014 World Cup Local Organising Committee.

The delegation consists of representatives from the department of sports, arts, culture and recreation and the Gauteng Economic Development Agency.

Others are from the Gauteng Tourism Authority and Match, Fifa's ticketing and accommodation agency for the 2010 and 2014 World Cups.

Blake Mosley-Lefatola, Geda chief executive, said they were in Sao Paulo to look for business opportunities for South African companies based in Gauteng.

He said the delegation will solicit opportunities for South African companies involved in the 2010 project and those with the necessary capacity.

They are also in Brazil to introduce the non-hotel accommodation concept as done in South Africa with the bed-and-breakfast arrangement.

"Working with Match, we are looking at opportunities in the travel and tourism field, stadia and general construction, multimedia solutions, events mana- gement and language services.

"The visit comes just weeks after the agency, together with the Gauteng Enterprise Propeller hosted a highly successful Gauteng soccer business forum week aimed at continuing the dialogue on the formalisation of the soccer industry as an economic sector in Gauteng.

"We are also looking at encouraging leading Brazilian companies trading in sports and soccer-related products to come to the 2009 and 2010 Soccerex, which is hosted by the home of champions, Gauteng," said Mosley-Lefatola.
