Never give tormentor power by showing you are upset

It may be tempting to tell a child to fight back when your child is bullied and maybe you were told to "stand up for yourself" when you were young.

It may be tempting to tell a child to fight back when your child is bullied and maybe you were told to "stand up for yourself" when you were young.

But it's important to tell children not to respond by fighting or bullying back. It's best to walk away, hang out with other children, tell an adult or:

l Avoid the bully and use the buddy system. Make sure you have someone with you so that you're not alone with the bully.

l Hold the anger. It's natural to get upset, but that's what bullies thrive on. It makes them feel more powerful.

l Act brave, walk away and ignore the bully. Firmly and clearly tell the bully to stop. Practise ways to ignore the hurtful remarks, like acting uninterested.

l At home encourage your child to join clubs and find activities that can help him feel confident and strong. - Kids Health
