The Lions went on the rampage when they humiliated Valke 83-14 in a lopsided Absa Currie Cup encounter at Bosman Stadium, Brakpan, on Friday night.

A blunder by the visitors' defence enabled the hosts to lead 7-0 via Dewald Pretorius' try and Poerie van Rooyen's conversion as early as the fifth minute of the game.

But it did not take long before the Lions found their rhythm and unleashed several attacks from all angles.

Four minutes later the Lions enjoyed a 12-7 lead after Jaco Pretorius and Jaco van Schalkwyk scored a try apiece and former captain Earl Rose converted.

Unfortunately, the Doornfontein side will miss the services of Van Schalwyk, who was given a red card in the 64th minute in their Saturday tie against Griquas at Ellis Park Stadium. Wing Trompie Nontshinga had a great debut as he registered the fourth try of the Lions after eluding tackles from the desperate Valke defence.

On Saturday in Durban, the Sharks toppled the Bulls from the top of the table with a 34-25 victory.

Western Province humbled defending champions Cheetahs 35-17 in Bloemfontein, while Griquas defeated the Kavaliers 48-22 in Kimberley.
