Sponsorship row hits BSA
Mike Motloung, who was hailed as boxing's messiah after he promised Boxing SA a R10,5 million sponsorship in a widely publicised deal in February, blames BSA for his failure to make a single payment.
The boss of Tourist Choice is rumoured to be broke, but he denied this yesterday.
Motloung was promised the naming rights to South African belts as part of the deal, which provides for a first payment of R3,5million this year.
"I have not given it to BSA because they have not lived up to the promises of giving me their yearly calendar for national title fights as well as a formal launch of the Tourist Choice SA belts," he explained.
But Boxing SA's chief executive Bongani Khumalo said Motlaung is jumping the gun.
"The launching of the belt must be preceded by the first payment of R3,5 million, which will be used to design it and procure it for presentation to the board. He knows that too. Without this payment we cannot commit BSA to incur the costs."
