About 2 500 high school pupils from Tembisa, Alexandra and Ivory Park will attend a crucial career guidance workshop at the Esselen Park Conference Centre in Ekurhuleni on September 12.
It is sponsored by the Transport Education and Training Authority (Teta) and coordinated by Maningi Galore, a black career guidance body.
Teta official Sibongile Ngwenya said the workshop would give grades 11 and 12 pupils information relating to various career options, especially in the rail sector.
It is hoped this effort will help raise young people's interest in careers in the transport sector. The pilot project hopes to develop and improve skills in the transport sector.
Teta was established in 2000 by the Labour Ministry in accordance with the Skills Development Act.
It was launched after the dissolution of the aerospace, maritime, road freight, road passenger and the Transnet training boards. - Victor Mecoamere
