Top South African runner Johannes Kekana will make his ultra debut at the Blue IQ City to City race from Pretoria to Johannesburg on Sunday morning.

Kekana, 36, is one of the top runners who have registered to participate in this event hosted by Central Gauteng Athletics and Athletics Gauteng North.

The 2003 All Africa Marathon champion said he was looking forward to doing well in this eagerly-awaited, star-studded event.

"I have decided to try my luck in the ultras because age is no longer on my side, though I won't stop doing the standard marathons [42,2km].

"City to City Marathon has a rich athletics history in South Africa, it feels great to use it as my entry point in the ultras. I did complete half marathons Vodaworld and Old Eds in the past three weeks as part of my training."

He won the Old Eds race in a time of 66min:50sec.

Meanwhile, Jacaranda 94.2 has joined hands with sponsor Blue IQ Investment Holdings in presenting this 56km event.
