The North West government is planning a 2009 Confederations Cup and 2010 World Cup business opportunities conference next month.

North West Premier Edna Molewa said the provincial conference will be a joint venture with the Department of Trade and Industry, Local Organising Committee and other stakeholders.

The conference will be attended by representatives from business, the South African Football Association, and those in the accommodation, transport and marketing fields.

North West, through the city of Rustenburg, home of the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Phokeng, is hosting the Confederations Cup and World Cup.

Molewa, who has adopted a hands-on approach in the preparations for the two competitions, is happy with the preparations.

She said Sport and Recreation South Africa will also assist the province with the funding of training venues, which are being upgraded as part of the provincial legacy project.

She said non hosting municipalities will approach the National Lottery Board to fund the upgrading of their stadiums.

Some of the venues being upgraded are James Motlatsi Stadium in Orkney, Mmabatho Stadium in Mafikeng and Olympia Park in Rustenburg.

North West has signed a cooperation agreement with the health department in Limpopo for the Confederations Cup.
