A Durban driver was shot dead, allegedly by another motorist in an apparent road rage incident in KwaDabeka, police said yesterday.

Michael Mbonambi had been travelling in his Volkswagen Golf on Monday at about 2.15am when the shooting happened, said police spokesman Captain Bongani Khomo.

A red Polo Playa allegedly came from the opposite direction and took up space on Mbonambi's side of the road, leaving little space for him to pass.

The cars stopped and from their windows, both drivers began arguing.

"The Polo driver then withdrew a firearm and opened fire," Khomo said.

Mbonambi was shot in the head and died at the scene. Police were summoned and made two arrests on a charge of murder. - Sapa
