Cheetahs' coach Naka Drotske has attributed his winning the Absa Currie Cup Coach of the Month award to teamwork and dedication.

An excited coach of the Free State side was speaking to Sowetan after the South African Rugby Union named him the winner for the month of August yesterday.

The defending champions' mentor also acknowledged the cooperation from the players and management.

"It is a great honour to be rewarded for the job well done but the daunting task of defending the title has just begun," said Drotske, who got a cheque of R10000.

" I guess when the team plays badly the head coach attracts a bit of heat, so maybe it's not a bad thing to earn some praise when the team plays well," he said.

The Cheetahs are third on the log with 32 points, trailing the table-toppling Bulls by two points and the second-placed Sharks by one point.

This week the Cheetahs entertain Western Province in a grudge tie on Saturday after the Cape side routed them 10-3 in the first round.

The Sharks flanker, Jean Deysel scooped the player of the month award and was presented with R10 000.

The Bulls mentor Frans Ludeke became the first coach to be awarded the monthly award when he was named top coach for the month of July.
