Premier Moloto celebrates belated 44th birthday in style

Frank Maponya

Limpopo Premier Sello Moloto took time off from his hectic schedule to celebrate his birthday with multitudes of well-wishers in Louis Trichardt on Sunday.

The birthday celebration was delayed due to Moloto having been away in Namibia on a trade mission.

His birth date is August 27. He was celebrating his 44th birthday.

The premier, accompanied by his wife Ramokone, had a field day trying to calm the local people who were excited at seeing him, the person they regard as their hero.

The celebration, which was sponsored by a leading banking institution to the tune of almost R50000, was held at the Makhado Sports Hall - opposite the local showgrounds.

Moloto has visited several areas of the province for his birthday celebrations since he was appointed premier in 2004.

Political heavyweights in the Vhembe district could not help but join the festivities in wishing Moloto a happy birthday.

Among those who attended were executive mayor of the Vhembe district municipality and ANC district chairman Phillemon Mdaka, mayor of Makhado municipality Gloria Mashaba, the speaker of Vhembe district municipality Suzan Sibiya, and businessmen and women from across the province.

Among the businessmen who graced the occasion was Amie Chayya, better known in the province as the minister of blankets.

The 77-year-old Chayya donated blankets to the First Lady's Trust, which would then forward them to needy communities.

Prominent businessman Tom Boya, who is also chairman of the First Lady's Trust, was clearly over the moon at Chayya's donation and vowed to do everything in his power to donate the items to those in need.

Boya said they would work hand-in-hand with community development workers who willassist them in identifying poverty-stricken families who stand to benefit from the donations.
