A destitute Limpopo pensioner, who is at loggerheads with his headman, seems to be far from realising his dream of getting an RDP house.

Daniel Mononyane, of Mohlonong village in the Mashashane area, still lives in a rundown shack resembling a pigsty.

Local induna Lesiba Ledwaba allegedly tampered with the system shortly before Mononyane, 68, could be presented with the house.

When Sowetan visited the village at the weekend both Ledwaba and Mononyane were found drinking traditional beer, facing in different directions and fuelling suspicions that indeed the two do not see eye to eye.

When the headman was asked why, as a traditional leader, he could not help his neighbour acquire an RDP house like other people, he shrugged and rhetorically asked: "What do you expect me to do?" before he returned to his drinking spree.
