A Limpopo woman claims that her family is being torn apart by social workers at the provincial department of health and social development who have taken her children from her.

The distraught woman from Monotoane village in the Mashashane area alleges that social workers are turning her children against her.

When Nancy Sethosa, 41, could no longer provide for her childre, two daughters Grace, 17, and Lenda, 12, two sons Delson, 7, and Max, 4, she said she initially sought help from community leaders and social workers.

It is understood that the single mother, whose children were fathered by different fathers, abandoned them to go and seek employment in Polo- kwane.

She allegedly left Max unattended, while he still needed to be breast-fed.

Grace, the eldest of the four and allegedly fathered by an Afrikaner who used to employ Nancy as a domestic worker, had to assume the duties of a mother and ended up dropping out of school for two years.

The Polokwane Child and Family Care Society took in the girls at the Polokwane welfare complex while the boys were taken into foster care.

Their mother has come back and is demanding her children, accusing the social workers of "stealing" the children.

"They are my children and nobody should take them away," she says.

But Joline Fouche, a social worker of the Polokwane Child and Family Care Society, describes Nancy as someone whose mothering skills are "questionable".
