Two teenagers were arrested on Thursday night for allegedly robbing and attempting to rape a 38-year-old woman in Carolina, Mpumalanga.

Superintendent Abie Khoabane said the Albert Luthuli municipality employee went home for lunch and was confronted by the two, aged 16 and 17, inside her house. They had gained entry through an open toilet window.

"They took her handbag, containing a firearm, cellphone and bank card, and demanded her bank card PIN. One of them went to draw cash from her account.

"When he left, he allegedly told his friend to rape the woman. But the boy struggled to undress the victim and ejaculated before he could finish undressing her," said Khoabane.

They later fled in her Toyota Tazz. "The two were arrested the same night."
