Sigh of relief as petrol price drops to under R10 a litre

Petrol falls back under R10 a litre at midnight tomorrow, giving a breather from the rounding problem garages had over the past two months with older mechanical pumps being unable to handle the four digit price.

The price of 93 octane, commonly used by Gauteng drivers, drops 69 cents to R9,51 a litre and the higher 95 octane required by coastal drivers drops 68 cents to R9,42 a litre.

Inland drivers who opt for the more expensive 95 octane pay an extra 10 cents demand side management levy.

A simple way for Gauteng motorists to save on their fuel bill is to make sure they tank up with 93 octane.

For diesel - where service stations set their own dealers margin - the price of low sulphur is dropping R1,46 a litre and standard diesel is dropping R1,44 a litre.

This takes the wholesale price of diesel at inland garages to 983,30 cents a litre. The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin drops R1,46 to R8,07 a litre.
