The proof of the pudding is in the eating.
It is against this background that soccer loyalists are eagerly waiting for tomorrow's clash between Lamont- ville Golden Arrows and Orlando Pirates.
They battle it out for their first three points of the 2008-2009 Absa Premiership season at King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi at 3pm.
Passionate supporters can expect fireworks because, like all the other 14 Premiership clubs, Arrows and Pirates have been strengthening various departments.
While Pirates have been signing an array of top players, Arrows opted to promote youngsters from their development programme.
"We have also signed several youngsters from amateur clubs," said Zweletho Mzolo, Arrows' publicist. "We don't have big names, but are looking forward to a great season. The plan is to finish well inside the top eight bracket. We need silverware this season.
"The marathon battle starts on Saturday [tomorrow] with the big one against Pirates, who have recruited some big names. The plan is to start the season with a bang. We urge people coming to this game to buy tickets at the Computicket outlets," continued Mzolo.
His counterpart at Pirates, Mickey Modisane said: "It is vital that we collect all three points on offer to ensure that we kick off the 30-game marathon on a high note.
"This game will be a real test of character for our boys and they will need to show that they have the mettle to overcome the disappointment of the MTN8."
With Kagisho Dikgacoi in England in a bid to secure a move to Fulham, Arrows have other equally good players such as Abia Nale, Kagiso Senamela and Vusi Dlamini to call on.
It will be interesting to see how new Pirates recruits such as Lebogang Mothibantwa, Thembile Kanono, Benson Mhlongo and Reason Chiloane fare in the league.
