The Tzaneen municipality in Limpopo will spend nearly R30million of its R79million working capital on tarring rural roads in various parts of the area during this financial year.

The money forms part of this year's total municipal budget of R453million that was tabled by mayor Othaniel Mushwana two months ago.

The council approved the money during an urgent special sitting held at the municipal chambers in Tzaneen this week.

According to municipal mana- ger Mabakane Mangena, the roads that will be tarred run through include those in the villages of Lefara, Moleketla, Petanenge, Mawa and Motupa.

Mangena said the aim was to improve and meet the needs of the communities within the municipal boundary by providing them basic services "which are part of the essential needs".

Mangena said that the muni- cipality had also allocated R28million to address the infrastructure backlog within the municipality.

Some of the roads in Lmpopo that will be given priority include Mawa block 8, Mookgo block 6, Xihoko, Lekgwareng, Khopho, Serare and Lusaka.
