Mangena seems to be selling out

I noted with interest the recent remarks by Azapo president Mosibudi Mangena about the need to respect the judiciary.

I noted with interest the recent remarks by Azapo president Mosibudi Mangena about the need to respect the judiciary.

Was Mangena mandated by his party to make such utterances?

I asked myself why a party with credentials for championing the cause of blacks would tell them to respect an institution that represents the interests of a minority elite, especially a white minority?

We are talking of a systems where a black judge finds a white person guilty of murder for feeding a black labourer to the lions and sentences him to life, only to have his judgment overturned by a body of a majority white judges.

How can we respect a system that gives a white man the benefit of the doubt for mistaking a black man for a baboon?

Surely Azapo cannot be asking us to ignore these injustices. If so, it has abandoned its historical role of freeing blacks from all forms of injustice. Steve Biko must be finding it hard to explain his mission to apartheid leaders such as Hendrick Verwoerd and John Vorster.

Mangena also called on South Africans to stop the country from sliding into a dictatorship like Zimbabwe. I doubt if Azapo and the Black Consciousness Movement agree with him.
