Bogus police officers continue to hijack unsuspecting motorists, particularly truck drivers, in Mpumalanga.
Mpumalanga has been hit by a spate of hijackings by people masquerading as either police or traffic officers.
They either stop people to check their vehicles or to make them aware of a problem on the trucks.
Once the driver pulls off the road, they point him a gun at him and take control of the vehicle.
Jeremiah Molwantoa Motaung, 45, of Vereeniging in Gauteng, is one of the victims.
Police spokesman Superintendent Abie Khoabane confirmed that a number of such cases had been reported to the police.
They had been reported mostly in the Highveld and eastern Highveld areas.
He said Molwantoa Motaung and his assistant were allegedly stopped by occupants of a marked police car.
The men indicated that the tail-lights of their truck were not working.
"He stopped the truck and they checked the tail-lights and found them in order," Khoabane said.
"As he was returning to the cabin, a man emerged from underneath the trailer and hit him with an unknown object before forcing him into the truck.
Inside, another gunman had already taken up the controls and they were driven to a secluded place where they were tied up with shoe laces," Khoabane said.
The two spent the night in the open until in the morning when they managed to untie themselves and report the matter to the police.
The truck was described as a Nissan with the regi- stration number WBX 474 GP and valued at R600000.
Khoabane said no arrests had yet been made.
