After a hugely successful maiden season in the American W-League, Banyana Banyana striker Veronica Phewa has been snapped up by a Ukranian team.

Phewa, who finished top goal scorer for her US team, FC Indiana, has been loaned to Ukranian champions Nestekhimik Kalush.

This gives her a chance to compete with top European opposition in the upcoming Uefa Women's Club Championships, which takes place next month.

The first match of Phewa's club is on September 3 in Poland. There are clubs from Poland, Estonia, Ukraine and Greece in their group.

Fran Hilton-Smith, Banyana team manager, said Phewa has been in high demand after her exploits in the US.

She will join her new club and play in their remaining 14 league matches this season.

Phewa returns to the US in February next year for the next season with FC Indiana.

"I want to thank the player's agent, Mr Mike Fola of Sportmidfield Agency, for giving our girls this lifetime opportunity to play at the highest level," Hilton-Smith said.

Phewa could not be reached for comment.
