Calm needed

The brouhaha surrounding the country's first female chief in the Tzaneen region in Limpopo is unfortunate.

The brouhaha surrounding the country's first female chief in the Tzaneen region in Limpopo is unfortunate.

After months of court battles with her uncle, Felia Lwandlamuni Shiluvana N'wamitwa was declared the rightful heir to the throne by the Constitutional Court.

Her inauguration tomorrow as chief of the 800000-strong Valoyi tribe has now been marred by threats from her cousin Sydwell N'wamitwa, who is seeking an interdict to stop the proceedings.

We don't know if he will succeed over a ruling by the country's highest court.

What is needed is a truce between the parties to bring stability to the trouble-torn tribe and to let the decision of the ConCourt prevail.
