KwaZulu-Natal MEC for finance and economic development Zweli Mkhize has called on South Africans to let go of their negative attitude and start thinking positively about the country to attract investors ahead of the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for finance and economic development Zweli Mkhize has called on South Africans to let go of their negative attitude and start thinking positively about the country to attract investors ahead of the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

Speaking at the launch of a Wonderful Women gathering scheduled for Absa Stadium on Sunday as part of Women's Month celebrations, Mkhize said it was time for individuals to start thinking about what can be done to change the "gloomy mood" in SA.

Mkhize said he had been inspired by the passion and positive thinking of the organisers of the event, Awesome SA, a non-governmental organisation that has taken up the cause to encourage a positive mindset in the country.

Mkhize donated a cheque of R500000 to the organisation to support the initiative.

Di Smith of Awesome SA said the event was aimed not only at celebrating women but also taking a stand in affirming a new future.

Encouraging women to get behind the World Cup, author Nikolaus Eberls said women played a critical role in improving the mood and could make the Cup a success. Freshlyground, Verity and gospel artist Deborah Fraser will perform. Tickets are available at Computicket. - Khanyisile Nkosi
