The creator of the daily SABC2 soapie Muvhango, Duma ka Ndlovu, has joined a growing number of high-profile personalities on the taxman's wanted list.
Sowetan can exclusively reveal that Ndlovu has failed to honour his tax obligations for some time.
This has seen officials of the South African Revenue Service (Sars) frequent SABC head offices in Auckland Park in an effort to force Ndlovu to comply.
Sowetan has been reliably informed that the soapie's executive producer owes more than R1 million in personal taxes.
Last week we reported that the shooting of Muvhango - the country's second biggest soapie - has been put on hold because of contractual disputes.
The production was apparently running out of funds because the SABC had stopped paying the producers.
This latest revelation will throw panic-stricken actors into further disarray.
Our source says Ndlovu's alleged shenanigans with the taxman came to light when Sars was doing a random check on taxpayers.
When contacted for comment, Ndlovu said: "I think you should talk to them (Sars) because I don't know where you are getting your information from."
But our source maintains that Sars officials had to visit Ndlovu after a number of letters failed to jerk the Picasso of local soapies into action.
It is understood that Ndlovu played cat and mouse even after a series of unwelcome and potentially embarrassing visits from Sars officials.
It was only after threats of legal action that Ndlovu promised to pay up.
Sars spokesman Adrian Lackay refused to comment, saying it was against policy to divulge personal information to the media.
