Ajax Cape Town are determined to start the season on a high note when they host newly promoted Maritzburg United in an Absa Premiership game at Athlone Stadium tonight at 7.30.

The Urban Warriors, who didn't lose a single official game at home last season, are determined to retain that record and build on it this season.

The side's spokesman, Thabiso Mekuto said yesterday that United could be a tricky proposition.

"They are back from relegation and we expect one of the toughest fights of our lives."

But Mekuto was confident of maintaining their proud home record.

"We have a bit of experience and youth and the team is adapting well and showing a lot of character. We have acquired new faces and we hope that we'll do much better than last season," he said.

He added that former development player Cole Alexander and Mario Booysens could see Ajax through.

United's team manager Quintin Jettoo said their major aim was to stay in the elite league for the next three season before they start challenging for silverware.

"We're back in the elite league and this time we're going to make sure that we stay for good. We've rectified our mistakes."

They have acquired the services of Lebohang Kukame and Manuel "Tico Tico" Bucuane to strengthen the side.
