Seleteng Giant Killers continued their dominance over softball clubs in Limpopo, this time around by winning the inaugural Lebowakgomo Wild Beasts Heroes' tournament on Saturday.

The matches that were played at Lebowakgomo High School were aimed at honouring Beasts' three fallen heroes - retired player and official Tlanki Muroa, pitcher Brightly Sebopa and Koketso Matlala - who all died in accidents between 2004 and 2006.

Limpopo Softball Association LimDev Super League champions Killers started their rampaging campaign with a 22-1 victory over Mamaolo Rebels, before they pipped Beasts 8-4 and Moletlane Texas 4-2 in round robin matches and 5-3 in the final.

Zebediela-based Texas beat Beasts 4-3 and walloped Rebels 11-1 before they were mauled by Killers.

Tumelo Mphahlele was voted best batter, Mamphiri Sethosa most valuable player, while Tidima Kekana was voted best pitcher and player of the tournament.

Wild Beauties redeemed Beasts' tarnished image when they won the women's section. They trounced University of Limpopo (UL) 13-4 while Polokwane United rubbed salt in UL's wounds with a 11-3 pasting.

Beauties beat United 10-7 in a closely contested final. Tshidi Kgoale was voted best batter, Tebogo Thubakgole best fielder and catcher, Maripa Mashamaite best pitcher and Nomsa Mabusa player of the tournament.

"We are impressed by the fact that the tourney got off the ground at a high pace

"We hope that next year, when we involve clubs from other districts and provinces, the tournament will be more interesting," Polelo Masola, Beasts' chairman, told Sowetan yesterday.
