Mpumalanga's sleepy capital town was a hive of activity at the weekend when the SABC brought celebrities to the city.

Many locals who attended SABC2's road show, Dorp 2 Dorp, had previously only seen these celebrities on TV.

But on Saturday Nelspruit residents had a chance to meet more than 50 of their favourite stars from soapies such as Muvhango and 7de Laan.

The elaborate, colourful and energetic show kicked off with a street parade through Nelspruit.

The procession started at the SABC's Nelspruit offices and moved to the Nelspruit rugby stadium.

SABC publicist Onicka van der Sandt said: "We initiated this road show two years ago to showcase SABC personalities and to give South Africans in small towns a chance to meet the stars of their favourite programmes."

Ntando, Mshoza and other musicians entertained the crowd.

On Friday the station invited members of the public to attend open feedback sessions, which allowed people to give their input on the various SABC2 programmes.

Yesterday Precious Ndlovu, of Matsulu, was treated to a surprise visit by actors of Muvhango.
