Soweto boxing promoter Mxolisi Gumede has prepared what he dubs a "Thrill-A-Minute Boxing Affair" for the Walter Sisulu Hall in Ferndale.

The event takes place on Saturday evening.

Gumede probably knows what he is talking about. He is a former Transvaal and SA lightweight champion.

The retired boxer anticipates a war of attrition in the main contest between Emmanuel "Brown Bomber" Duma and Tshepo "De La Hoya" Mashego.

This is because these two ring gladiators from Toekomsrus and Witbank, respectively, must win the vacant Gauteng provincial middleweight title which will be at stake in order to consolidate their futures.

Their careers are nearing an end. A negative result will relegate the loser to being a permanent undercard fighter or send him straight to the scrapheap.

Mashego, who fights out of Paul Tshehla's ABC camp in Mpumalanga, has tasted honey - he once held the national belt.

Duma, who is under Bokkie Martins, has failed to win national belts.

Their contrasting styles of fighting should make this fight interesting.

Duma is a cagey left-hander whose prancing may put his opponent off-guard, only to suffer the consequences.

Mashego is a canny right-hander who blows hot and cold, yet he can fight anybody in the world and actually hold his own on his night.

He left the Germans stunned with his close points defeat to Felix Sturm for the IBF Youth middleweight title a few years back. Sturm fought stars such as Oscar de la Hoya

There will be four other bouts. Entrance fees are R60, R40 and R25. Action will start at 7.30pm.
