The victim of two suspected robbers, who had reportedly been terrorising the community, feels the culprits deserved to die.

She said this after the two robbers got a fatal dose of mob justice in Lenasia South at the weekend when residents accosted them.

"The men have been stealing from the community for a long time now and they finally got what they deserved," said Amelia Miya, 53.

The woman, of Lenasia South, was waylaid by two men with a gun in the early hours of Saturday.

"It was about 6.30am, just after my daughter Nthati left for work," Miya said. "When I went into the kitchen I saw the door handle turn. When I opened the door two men pointed a gun at me.

"I screamed but was overpowered. My other daughter, Buhle, 13, ran to her room and locked herself in."

While Miya struggled with one of the men at the door, who choked her when she tried to shout for help, the other entered the house.

Two men passing by heard her calls for help and jumped over the wall. The robber ran out of the house with a DVD machine and a chase ensued.

"The one who was throttling me tried to run but was caught in the yard by people passing by," Miya said.

"When I got to the street there were many people assaulting the robber with sjamboks and kicking him."

He was taken to the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, where he died yesterday afternoon.

"The other robber was caught a few streets away and beaten to death on the scene. It turns out that he was carrying a toy gun," said police inspector Mpho Kgosoane.
