It is rush time for National First Division clubs as they sign experienced players in their quest to strengthen their clubs ahead of the league's kickoff on Friday.
After they parted ways with Mark McVeigh and Boitumelo Moleyane who have joined Mpumalanga Black Aces, FC AK have signed 12 players who include Mali's senior national team player Abdoulaye Camara.
"We resolved to reinforce our team with quality players who will be able to stand against the test of the tough Inland Stream.
Qualifying for the playoffs last season is not enough, hence we are now building on Absa Premiership material," Kwezi "Meneer" Masondo told Sowetan yesterday.
The players are Zimbabwean Evans Gwekwerere from Moroka Swallows, Innocent Ntsume from Jomo Cosmos, Anderson Jacque from Morocco, Simba Fulufhelo, Cantorna Tshinono from Mozambique, Tshikonti Likwemba from Malawi, Sbusiso Nhlapo from Winners Park, Hendrico Fabri from University of Pretoria, Zweli Silawule from Dynamos and Bongani Phakathi.
Carara Kicks, the NFD Coastal Stream's newcomers, are hunting for an experienced central defender and midfielder to boost their youthful squad.
The Welkom- based side was promoted to the NFD during the Vodacom national playoffs held in North West.
They have retained only 10 players from the team that gained promotion and as a result roped in Zambian Clive Hachilensa, Prince Hlela, Mbulelo Makhensi and Zimbabwean Kingston Nkatha from Free State Stars.
Other players who were signed are Wilford Mutapo and Effort Sithole from Amazulu.
Dynamos' Lefu Nyapuli is still training with the team and expected to sign soon.
"We want to contest for promotion from the first match," Basil Mohalane, Kicks' general manager said.
