The ANC's Thabo Mofutsanyane region in the Free State became the party's first structure to hold a peaceful regional conference without any sign of infighting.

The entire regional executive committee was re-elected unopposed, except for four spaces for female additional members as required by the party's constitution, when the conference was held at Golden Gate at the weekend.

Regional spokesman Martin Kubeka said the peaceful conference demonstrated ANC unity and cohesion.

"It has never happened this way. This is a model region countrywide when it comes to unity and cohesion of the ANC," Kubeka said.

Thabo Mofutsanyane m ayor Msebenzi Zwane was retained as the regional chairman, Mahlomola Majaki as deputy chairman, Polediso Motsoeneng as secretary, Abel Mokotso as deputy secretary and Malewatle Nthedi as treasurer.

Kubeka said one of the conference resolutions was to establish street committees and a pilot project would be set up at Memel.

He also said a special regional general council would be held to discuss the conference resolutions and to find a way to turn them into a programme of action.
