Renaming drive narrow-minded

The issue of naming and renaming is continuously being used by the ANC and its alliance bedfellows to further their shallow and petty political agendas.

The issue of naming and renaming is continuously being used by the ANC and its alliance bedfellows to further their shallow and petty political agendas.

The manner in which this process is applied is in many instances reckless and irresponsible. It compromises our country's proud history. The ANC needs to wake up to the fact that the fall of apartheid is not their sole preserve.

It is therefore an injustice to our democratic dispensation for the ANC to pretend that struggle heroes only exist in their movement.

The proposed renaming of a street in Amanzimtoti to Andrew Zondo is absurd as it seeks to erase a far richer part of our history. We cannot allow the ANC to bully us in this obviously flawed renaming process.

I still fail to understand why Mangosuthu highway in Umlazi is being changed. Mangosuthu Buthelezi is an honourable statesman and a heroic stalwart of our struggle for freedom and democracy.

The continuous vilification of Buthelezi spells out that those who undermine Shenge's role in our history are politically immature and socially reckless.

Calls for the Mangosuthu University of Technology to be renamed should be condemned in the strongest possible terms. These calls are insane and narrow-minded.
