Cosatu has challenged the South African Human Rights Commission to oppose Mark Scott- Crossley's release.
He was released on parole yesterday after serving part of his five-year jail term for being an accessory after the fact when Nelson Chisale was thrown into a lions' enclosure in 2004.
"We call upon the Human Rights Commission to speak for the people of this country; it must oppose his release," said Cosatu's North West spokesman Solly Phetoe.
He said the community should petition the departments of Justice, Correctional Services and the Human Rights Commission.
The Young Communist League said it respected the law, but "it's disgusting that there's a systematic abortion of justice related to the murder of black workers".
