It's a stereotypical situation: man sitting bored and irritated while the girlfriend/wife or a daughter shops up a storm in any one of the huge malls that dominate our urban landscape. As sad as it might be we have to face the truth - one of the major contributions that women make to the economy is through buying things.

It's a stereotypical situation: man sitting bored and irritated while the girlfriend/wife or a daughter shops up a storm in any one of the huge malls that dominate our urban landscape. As sad as it might be we have to face the truth - one of the major contributions that women make to the economy is through buying things.

Studies show that women are responsible for buying 80percent of household goods and though we might try and play down our shopaholic addiction, it is clear that women have a great deal of influence in the economy as consumers. In other words, a lot of spending power.

Shopping is work. It is part of the unpaid labour not acknowledge in the formal economy. Whether it's for household goods, food, or luxury items women are born to shop, especially for footwear.

So, here's a heads up for all shoe devotees. From October, Stuttafords Sandton will be stocking an even larger range of international footwear brands.

The shop will now be able to offer shoppers a choice from some of the world's most sought after shoe labels.
