The principal of the Krugersdorp school Mac Redelinghuys said the school had a panel discussion on Friday for matric pupils to discuss their plans for the future. The alleged "sword slayer" was one of the pupils involved.
"From his answers he gave during the discussion we realised that he had no vision for the future. or what to work towards."
Redelinghuys said after the group discussion, the teachers made plans to assist the troubled 18-year-old youth.
"We thought that we would address his problem on Monday but it was too late.
"The boy was never in any trouble whatsoever. He was a good pupil.
"Most of the pupils at our school grow up in loveless families. They feel unwanted but we try and assist them as much as we can."
Gauteng education MEC Angie Motshekga said: "The school had realised that he was withdrawn in the past five months. Unfortunately, the school was unable to find out what was wrong in time."
