The South African mission in Cuba has organised a gathering to deal with the preparations for the 2010 Fifa World Cup finals.

Thenjiwe Mtintso, the South African ambassador to Cuba, is hosting the event that will also be attended by various diplomats.

Tim Modise, the LOC's communications director, will leave for the capital Havana today to interact with the participants. He will return next Tuesday.

"It has been organised by our foreign mission in Cuba. The event will be attended by heads of missions based in that country," said Modise.

"We will use the opportunity to update them on the preparations for the 2009 Fifa Confederations Cup and 2010 Fifa World Cup. We are working hard to promote the World Cup locally and globally. Right now, our chief executive [Danny Jordaan] is in China for the Beijing Olympics."

The South African mission in Cuba is the second one to organise an event of this nature to update the diplomats on the World Cup preparations. Czech Republic hosted a similar event late last year.
