The 2010 World Cup Government Coordinating Unit has conveyed their condolences to the family of a worker who died on site at Peter Mokaba Sports Complex.

The 2010 World Cup Government Coordinating Unit has conveyed their condolences to the family of a worker who died on site at Peter Mokaba Sports Complex.

July Skhosana, 62, of Kwandebele in Mpumalanga, was killed last Friday morning. Funeral arrangements have not yet been finalised.

Dan Moyo, the unit's head, said the death marred the good progress made towards ensuring all the necessary preparations are in place to host the best World Cup.

"It is our hope that the host city of Polokwane, the Limpopo government, the national government and the Local Organising Committee will act with the necessary sympathy, sensitivity and speed to extend assistance to the family of the deceased.

"The deceased's selfless contribution in the construction of this legacy stadium will not go unnoticed - we will treasure it for generations to come. There is no doubt that the loss of life will send a strong message to all 2010 projects managers to enforce stricter safety measures."
