'SA may end up like zim'

South Africans should stand up and stop the country's slide into a one-party state led by the ANC.

Failure to do so can only lead to a crisis similar to that in Zimbabwe.

This was the message at a symposium organised by the Azanian People's Organisation (Azapo) at the University of Johannesburg on Saturday.

Azapo president Mosibudi Mangena said the crisis in Zimbabwe was due to the collapse of the democratic process.

"Democracy is the thread that binds all of us together and once it breaks we revert to the law of the jungle," Mangena said.

Some of the ills cited at the symposium as corroboration are:

lThe impending dissolution of the Scorpions;

lManoeuvres to squash cases involving ANC leaders;

lMoves to dissolve the SABC board and take control of the public broadcaster; and

lThe statements avowing a willingness "to kill for Zuma".
