The situation is still tense in the Northern Cape after an ANC regional conference in Namaqua was abandoned when two party factions fought over leadership elections.

Supporters of secretary Neville Mompati obtained an interdict from the Kimberley high court against the holding of regional conferences at Namaqualand and Siyanda ANC regions. The group claimed they were deliberately excluded because only chairman John Block's, pictured, supporters were registered as delegates.

The party's provincial conference is expected to be held in Kuruman on August 28. -Eric Naki
