National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) members are fully committed to delivering world-class stadiums in South Africa for the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
That is according to Frans Baleni, the secretary-general of NUM, who spoke to Sowetan at Soccer City, which is being upgraded, on Friday.
There have been strikes at various stadiums that will be used for the 2009 Confederations Cup and the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
Peter Mokaba Sports Centre, Mbombela Stadium, Green Point and Royal Bafokeng are some of the facilities affected by labour strikes in the past four months.
Baleni was among the dignitaries who joined constructors on site celebrating Soccer City's one million accident-free hours.
"We are totally committed to the construction and delivery of stadiums that South Africans and Africa will be proud of for the World Cup," he said.
But he added: "There is no doubt that our members deserve better pay and that's what we are fighting for."
