As expected, Owen da Gama has taken over as head coach at Free State Stars and will assume his new responsibilities today.
This comes in the wake of yesterday's resignation by Ghanaian David Duncan, who joined Stars from AshantiGold in June.
Da Gama, the former Platinum Stars and Orlando Pirates coach, was roped in as technical director of Ea Lla Stars two weeks ago.
"It is true that Owen has taken over, I was informed by Rantsi [Mokoena, Stars' brand manager] that David is leaving," said Mike Mokoena, Stars' chairman.
"David made it clear that he cannot work with Owen. We had brought Owen to be in charge of all the technical matters with the emphasis on development.
"There is a lot of money being pumped into our soccer, we needed to get all the best technical expertise to help us so that we do well from development to the senior team.
"The sponsorship from Bonitas helped us a lot to start focusing on development. People are now going to start seeing products of our development in the senior team."
When approached for comment, Duncan refused to confirm or deny that he was be going back to Ghana after handing in his resignation letter.
Duncan, who reportedly wanted the club to offload key players such as Jimmy Khauleza and Mpho Maleka, was earning R75 000 a month.
Da Gama will earn a slightly higher salary.
The new coach could not be reached for comment.
