More police have been deployed to monitor the situation at Nsimbini and Cato Manor where two rival taxi associations, the Chesterville Taxi Association and Umkhumbane Taxi Association, continue fighting over routes.
The route at the centre of the dispute is between the Cato Manor Hospital and the Nsimbini area.
On Wednesday KwaZuluNatal MEC for transport and community liaison, Bheki Cele, met the two associations to resolve the dispute.
After a two-hour meeting it was agreed that the two would work together. But the agreement didn't last since they attacked each other again yesterday morning.
In yesterday's attack a 25-year-old taxi driver and a rank manager narrowly escaped death when unknown men opened fire on them.
The feud between the two associations has been going on since the beginning of the year.
Umkhumbane Taxi Association chairman Stanley Dladla said it was agreed during the meeting that the routes be separated.
Police spokesman Vincent Mdunge said the police would be in the area 24 hours a day to ensure that peace prevailed.
"We are investigating a case of attempted murder as a taxi driver was injured," he said.
