Only teachers used to lax management need fear the system's intolerance for unaccountability and ineptitude. It is encouraging that the whip is gradually being cracked to restore discipline and a work ethic among teachers.

Hard on the heels of North West demoting three principals this week, the Gauteng eduction department has kicked out the entire Sedibeng West management for being the worst-performing district.

This tough approach augurs well for the future and should send the right signal to poorly-performing schools and district managements to jack up their act or ship out.
