One of the most eagerly awaited Anita Baker concerts is set to take place next week.

The 50-year-old R&B and soul singer and songwriter is scheduled to perform in an intimate, once-off gig at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg on Sunday, August 24. This will be her first show on African soil and her only performance in South Africa. Organisers at Zikmo Promotions and T-Musicman said only 8000 tickets were available for the show.

Mantwa Chinoamadi of T-Musicman said the golden circle tickets were almost sold out and urged fans to buy the remainder of the tickets early to secure the seats.

"Corporate hospitality packages are also available to give guests a special experience," Chinoamadi said. "Corporates and organised groups can get these packages to entertain their guests.

"The packages include a special VIP room, an upscale cocktail dinner, a complimentary bar, golden circle tickets and VIP toilets and parking."

Chinoamadi said fans will enjoy a state-of-the-art sound system and cinema-style seating so that all show-goers can have an intimate and unforgettable experience.

Baker began singing in a Baptist church choir at the age of 12. After stints as a cook, waitress and receptionist, she made music her full-time trade.

An eight-time Grammy winner and multi-platinum seller, her current tour is titled An Evening with Anita Baker.

Tickets cost R300 to R500.
